Act of throwing cargo or equipment (jetsam) overboard when a ship is in danger. The act of throwing goods overboard to lighten a ship or improve stability in stress of weather or in other cases of necessity or emergency. Any jettison of goods for the purpose of saving the whole adventure is a general average loss except in the cease of deck cargo. This exception however, does not apply, went deck cargo is carried in accordance with the erecognised custom of the trade.
