Arm of a crane which extends outwards. At one end hangs the hook used for lifting goods. The arm of a crane that carries the load; it can be "swung round" or "slewed" to pick up or land its load. Most modern jibs also move vertically in order to give better plumb for lifting cargo sets or lifts. The process is known as " luffing".
