This is an association or organisaton of ship-owning or ship operating companies ("carriers") offering scheduled liner services between specified ports and at a fixed, common ("tariff") of freight rates. The associating is formed under the terms of an agreement, called a "rate agreement". Formally, a liner conference is defined in the United Nation Code of Conduct for Liner Conferences 1974.
