Sethusamudram Canal refers to the proposed canal connecting Gulf of Manner with Palk Bay, which will enable ships from Western India ports to directly call on the Tuticorin port, without having to circumnavigate Sri Lanka, as is the current requirement. The available depth in this region is very shallow and is merely about 11 feet.
