It is usual to settle "general average" according to these Rules, the most recent version being that of 1994 ( 2004 being deliberated). They clearly define the sacrifices and expenses which will be made good as general average and in what manner the apportionment will be between the different parties, such as the owner, the cargo interests and the charterer.
